Eagle Eye Innovators Inspire Future Engineers at Crowley ISD STEM Wars

The Bill R. Johnson CTE Center buzzed with excitement during this year’s Crowley ISD STEM Wars, and one exhibit stole the spotlight from the moment the doors opened: Solis, the Eagle Eye Innovators’ solar‑powered race car. Middle schoolers, high schoolers, and curious parents crowded around the gleaming vehicle, eager to learn how a student‑driven team built a fully functional, competition‑ready machine powered entirely by the sun.

For the Eagle Eye Innovators, STEM Wars was more than a showcase—it was a chance to spark curiosity and show students what’s possible when creativity meets engineering. Solis stood proudly at the center of their display, its aerodynamic frame and solar array drawing in visitors who wanted to understand how such a lightweight, efficient vehicle comes to life. Team members explained everything from the car’s electrical system to its composite body, breaking down complex engineering concepts into hands‑on, approachable conversations.

Students were especially fascinated by how Solis converts sunlight into motion. Many lingered to ask about the photovoltaic cells, battery storage, and the design decisions that help the car reach impressive speeds during competition. Parents, meanwhile, were eager to learn about the teamwork, problem‑solving, and real‑world skills the Innovators develop through the project. The team’s passion was contagious, and it wasn’t long before the crowd grew into a steady stream of families wanting to know more.

What made the experience even more meaningful was the way the Innovators connected with younger students. Many middle schoolers asked how they could join the team in the future, while high schoolers wanted details about engineering roles, fabrication, and the competitions Solis participates in. The event became a perfect bridge between curiosity and opportunity, showing students that STEM isn’t just something you learn—it’s something you build, test, and drive.

The Eagle Eye Innovators left STEM Wars energized by the enthusiasm they encountered. Solis didn’t just turn heads; it opened doors. By sharing their work, the team helped students imagine themselves as designers, engineers, and innovators. And judging by the excitement in the room, many walked away inspired to take their first steps into STEM.

The Eagle Eye Innovators are already preparing for their next community event, and if STEM Wars was any indication, the interest in Solis—and in the team behind it—will only continue to grow.
